Local Falcon vs BrightLocal: which geo-grid tracker fits

· Updated

Local Falcon vs BrightLocal comes down to whether the map grid is the whole job or one part of it. Local Falcon is a geo-grid rank tracker first, priced by the grid point, with published prices from $24.99 a month. BrightLocal is a local SEO suite where the geo-grid (it calls it Local Search Grid) sits beside a keyword rank tracker, citations, listings and reviews, and its plans are priced by location count, from $41 a month. If you only need a weekly Google Maps grid for a few keywords at a flat price, there is a third option at the end of this page, Local Rank Tracker. Every figure about the two incumbents below was read off their own sites in September 2026.

This page is written for a business owner or a freelancer looking after a few local clients who has seen a heat map of Google Maps rankings and is choosing which tool to run it in.

The short verdict

  • Pick Local Falcon if the grid is what you buy: many keywords, large or custom grids, scans you schedule and pay for per point, plus AI visibility tracking and an API.
  • Pick BrightLocal if you want the grid as one report inside a whole local SEO workflow: keyword rank tracking, citation cleanup, listings sync, review management and client reporting in one login.
  • Pick neither if you track a handful of keywords, want the same bill every month and would rather the scan ran without you. That is the narrow job Local Rank Tracker does.

Both incumbents are serious products. The choice is about scope and how you like to pay.

How Local Falcon works and what it costs

Local Falcon sells credits. Its pricing page defines one:

A credit in Local Falcon is defined as one data point, often referred to as a “map pin,” used on the geo-grid during a scan.

So a 5x5 scan uses 25 credits and a 9x9 uses 81. The monthly packages, as of September 2026:

PackageMonthly priceCredits per month
Starter$24.997,500
Basic$49.9915,150
Pro$99.9931,250
Premium$199.9963,150

Annual billing is offered at the same monthly rate with more credits in the year. A new account gets 100 free credits. Unused package credits expire at the end of each billing cycle, while pay-as-you-go top-ups cost $0.05 per credit and do not expire. A Falcon AI analysis costs 25 credits per report. Enterprise packages run from $499 to $4,999 a month.

The pricing page lists the planning variables itself: grid size, number of keywords, number of locations (including competitors’ locations if you scan those), Falcon AI reports, the platforms you track on (Google and Apple), and how often you scan. That flexibility is the point of the product. It is also the work: you size the grid and the schedule against a pot of credits. We walk through how many keywords each package really covers in Local Falcon pricing in 2026.

Beyond the grid, the same page lists AI visibility tracking, campaign, competitor, trend, keyword and location reports, scheduled scans, service area business scans, public report URLs, CSV and PDF exports, a Looker Studio connector, Zapier and n8n integration, an API, an MCP server, Falcon Agent and white-label reports.

How BrightLocal’s Local Search Grid works and what it costs

BrightLocal describes the grid on its own product page like this:

Local rankings change from one street to the next.

The Local Search Grid page adds custom grid points, so you can skip water and empty space, and a side-by-side view of your grid against any competitor’s. It is one tool inside the platform. On the pricing page, the lowest tier, Track, includes a local rank tracker for up to 100 keywords and four competitors, the geo-grid map for up to five keywords, citation monitoring, a Google Business Profile audit and BrightLocal’s AI visibility tracker. Manage adds listings sync and AI Insights. Grow adds review monitoring, review requests and review widgets.

BrightLocal’s pricing page publishes the numbers by location count. For one location, Track is $41 a month, Manage $54 and Grow $65, or $31, $40 and $49 a month billed annually; two to five locations is $62, $76 and $87 a month, and only 250+ locations is Price on request. That $31 matches the “from $31 /month” in the Local Search Grid page’s comparison table: it is Track, one location, billed annually. The 14-day trial needs no credit card, and BrightLocal’s FAQ says that after it ends you can still log in and view your data but cannot run new reports without a plan.

Citations are bought separately, from $3.20 per site or as low as $2 with bulk credits.

Where Local Falcon is the better fit

  • You scan at volume. Unlimited keywords and locations on every package, bounded only by credits, suit an agency running grids for many clients.
  • You want big or unusual grids. BrightLocal’s own comparison table puts Local Falcon’s maximum at 21x21 against its own 15x15.
  • You track AI answers and Apple Maps. Local Falcon lists AI visibility tracking and Apple as a platform alongside Google.
  • You build on it. An API, an MCP server and Zapier and n8n integrations are on the pricing page.

Where BrightLocal is the better fit

  • The grid is one report among many. If you also clean citations, sync listings and answer reviews, one platform beats three logins.
  • You need classic keyword tracking too. Up to 100 tracked keywords with four competitors per location sits next to the grid in the same tier.
  • You report to clients across the whole of local SEO. A single suite gives one report covering rankings, listings and reputation.
  • You want to try before seeing a price. Fourteen days with no card is a fair way to find out whether the platform earns its price.

The third option: a flat weekly grid

Some people comparing these two only want one thing: to see where a Google Maps listing ranks across its area for a few searches, and who is #1 where it is not. For that job, both incumbents sell far more than you will use. Local Rank Tracker does only that part.

Local Rank Tracker

Free start100 credits once, enough for 5 keywords for their first month, no card
Grid sizes3x3, 5x5 or 7x7, same price

Figures are from our pricing page today. The grid size never changes the price, because you pay per keyword rather than per point. If a weekly scan cannot measure enough of the grid, it says so, retries within a day and keeps showing the last good grid with its date, so a gap never reads as a ranking. The same account can run Review Radar for Google review alerts on one credit balance.

It does not do AI answer tracking, Apple Maps, an API, white-label reports, citations or listings. If you need any of those, pick one of the two incumbents above.

How to choose, in four steps

  1. Count the keywords you check every week. Under ten for one or two listings points toward a flat tool. Dozens across clients points toward Local Falcon’s credits.
  2. List what else you do in a week. Citations, listings and reviews in the same week point toward BrightLocal.
  3. Price your actual usage. For Local Falcon, multiply grid points by keywords by scans per month. For BrightLocal, read the row for your location count off its pricing table.
  4. Run one cycle side by side. Grids from different tools will not match point for point, since each searches at its own moment. Compare the pattern, not individual squares.

If you are weighing BrightLocal against another suite, our BrightLocal vs Whitespark and Local Falcon alternative pages go deeper on each.

The bottom line

Local Falcon is the specialist: pay per grid point, scan as much as you like, with AI tracking and an API on top. BrightLocal is the generalist: the grid is one tool in a local SEO suite priced per location. If all you need is a weekly Google Maps grid for a few keywords at a price you can read in advance, track your first keyword free.
