The best local rank tracker for each kind of job in 2026

The best local rank tracker is the one priced the way you actually scan. If you run many keywords across many clients and want AI search tracking too, Local Falcon is the strongest fit. If you also manage Google Business Profiles day to day, LeadSnap or Local Viking bundle the rank grid with posting and listing tools. If you want organic and local rankings in one report, Whitespark sells a dedicated tracker. And if all you want is a weekly Google Maps grid for a handful of keywords, at a flat price per keyword, Local Rank Tracker does that one job. The prices below are each vendor’s own, as published on their sites in September 2026.

This page is written for a business owner, or a freelancer looking after a few local clients, who knows their Google Maps rank changes from street to street and wants a tool that shows it.

What a local rank tracker measures

A normal rank tracker asks Google once and reports one position. A local rank tracker asks Google Maps from many points around a business, usually laid out as a grid, because a searcher two streets away sees different results from one across town. The output is a map: green where the listing sits in the top three, red where it drops away.

That grid is also how most of these tools charge. Almost every tracker below bills per grid point, so the grid size, the number of keywords and how often you scan all come out of one allowance. Local Falcon describes its unit plainly:

A credit in Local Falcon is defined as one data point, often referred to as a “map pin,” used on the geo-grid during a scan.

So a 5x5 grid costs 25 credits per scan, a 9x9 grid costs 81, and a weekly scan costs about four times a monthly one. Keep that in mind when you compare the entry prices, because the cheapest plan is only cheap if it covers your scanning.

Every figure for another vendor comes from that vendor’s pricing page in September 2026. Local Rank Tracker figures are from our pricing page today.

Local Falcon: the most scanning for the money

Local Falcon is a dedicated geo-grid tracker and the reference point for this category. Its pricing page sells four monthly credit packages, with larger allowances on annual billing:

PlanMonthly priceCredits per month
Starter$24.997,500
Basic$49.9915,150
Pro$99.9931,250
Premium$199.9963,150

Local Falcon gives 100 free credits on sign up with no card, and notes that unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. Beyond the grid it lists AI visibility tracking, competitor and trend reports, scheduled scans, an API and white label reports.

At volume, Local Falcon is the cheapest way to scan. A weekly 5x5 scan uses roughly 108 credits a month, so the $24.99 Starter allowance covers about 69 keywords scanned weekly on that grid. If you scan dozens of keywords, this is the tool to beat. We compare it with ours in more depth in the Local Falcon alternative article and break down every package in Local Falcon pricing.

Choose Local Falcon if you run many keywords or many clients, want to vary grid sizes and scan radius, or want to see how a business shows up in AI assistants as well as on the map.

LeadSnap: a grid inside a profile management suite

LeadSnap sells its heatmap tracker as part of a GBP & Heatmaps plan. LeadSnap says capability does not change between levels, only capacity:

LevelPrice per monthLocationsHeatmap credits
Starter$591010,000
Pro$992520,000
Agency$1795045,000

Every level includes heatmap rank tracking, GBP posting and scheduling, photo scheduling and geotagging, profile lock, white label reports and unlimited team members. Past 50 locations you add $3 a month per extra location, and there is a 7 day free trial with no card.

Choose LeadSnap if you are an agency that posts to clients’ profiles, schedules their photos and sends white label reports, and wants the rank grid in the same place. The full cost picture, including citations and call tracking add-ons, is in LeadSnap pricing.

Local Viking: listing tools with a GeoGrid

Local Viking, now shown under the LocalOptics name on its pricing page, sells five agency plans with listings, keyword credits and GeoGrid credits per month:

PlanPrice per monthListingsGeoGrid credits
Single$3917,500
Starter$59108,100
Pro$992016,200
Agency$1494024,300
Enterprise$2007032,400

Every plan includes unlimited profile posts. White label reporting and the GeoGrid widget start at Pro. Business owners with one or a few locations are pointed to a demo call rather than a plan.

Choose Local Viking if your weekly routine is scheduling posts and keeping listings tidy, and the grid is one screen among several. If the grid is the only screen you open, the Local Viking alternative article covers that case.

Whitespark: separate tools, sold individually

Whitespark says it does not believe in forced bundling, so it sells its trackers as separate products. As of September 2026 its pricing page lists:

  • Local Ranking Grids, covering up to 225 geographical points, with plans starting at $10 a month.
  • Local Rank Tracker, for local and organic search performance, with plans from $14 to $200 a month.

Whitespark also sells citation, review and listing services on their own price lines, so you can pay for the one tool you use.

Choose Whitespark if you want organic rankings and map rankings reported side by side, or you already use its citation or listing services. BrightLocal vs Whitespark compares it with the other big local SEO suite, which also sells a Local Search Grid inside its wider platform.

Local Rank Tracker: a weekly grid at a flat price per keyword

Local Rank Tracker does one job. You pick your Google listing, name the search your customers type, and it searches Google Maps from every point of a grid around your business. Each square shows your position at that spot, and pointing at a square shows the business ranked first there, so you can see which competitor owns which part of town.

  • Grids of 3x3, 5x5 or 7x7 points, from 0.5 to 10 miles out, for the same price.
  • A fresh grid every 7 days, run automatically, with no scan to remember.
  • Honest when a scan falls short. If a weekly scan cannot measure enough of the grid, it says so and tries again within a day, and you keep seeing the last good grid labelled with its date.
  • 20 credits per keyword per month. Starter is $39 a month for 200 credits, which is 10 keywords. A new account gets 100 credits once, enough for 5 keywords for their first month, with no card.

The same account can also run Review Radar, which alerts you the day a negative Google review goes unanswered. Both draw on one credit balance.

Choose Local Rank Tracker if you track a handful of keywords for one business or a few clients, want the grid refreshed weekly without planning credits, and would rather pay a known price per keyword than estimate grid points.

Who should stay with what they have

A flat price per keyword is simple, and it is not always the cheapest. Be honest with yourself about volume:

  • You scan more than a couple of dozen keywords weekly. Local Falcon’s credit packages cost less per keyword at that scale.
  • You need grids larger than 7x7. Local Falcon, LeadSnap and Whitespark all go wider, up to 225 points on Whitespark’s grids.
  • You manage profiles as a service. LeadSnap and Local Viking bundle posting, photos and white label reports that Local Rank Tracker does not offer.
  • You report organic rankings too. Whitespark’s tracker covers both.

If none of those apply, you are paying for capacity you do not use.

How to pick, in four questions

  1. How many keywords, how often? Multiply keywords by grid points by scans per month. If the total is in the thousands, a credit package wins. If it is a few hundred, a flat price is easier.
  2. What grid size does your service area need? A café needs a few blocks. A plumber covering a metro needs a wide radius more than a dense grid.
  3. What else do you open every week? If it is profile posting and reporting, a bundle earns its price.
  4. Who reads the result? A client who wants a branded PDF points to a tool with white label reports.

How to try Local Rank Tracker

  1. Create a free account. No card is needed, and the 100 starting credits cover five keywords for their first month.
  2. Find your business by name and city and pick your Google listing.
  3. Name the search customers type, such as “emergency plumber”. Leave out “near me”, because every grid point already searches as someone standing there.
  4. Pick a grid size and radius. After that, a fresh grid arrives every 7 days.

If you are moving from another tracker, run both for one week on the same keyword and compare the grids before you cancel anything. Start tracking your first keyword.
