Local Falcon vs Local Viking: which geo-grid tool fits which job

Local Falcon vs Local Viking comes down to one question: is the map grid the whole job, or one screen in a bigger one? Local Falcon is a geo-grid rank tracker first, sold as credits where one grid point costs one credit, from $24.99 a month. Local Viking is a Google Business Profile management suite that schedules posts, edits listings and uploads photos, with a GeoGrid rank view inside it, from $39 a month for one listing. If you want the grid and nothing else, on a weekly schedule at a flat price per keyword, there is a third option near the end of this page, Local Rank Tracker. Every figure about the two incumbents below was read off their own sites in September 2026.

This page is written for a business owner, or a freelancer looking after a few local clients, who has seen a heat map of Google Maps rankings and is deciding which of these two to run it in.

The short verdict

  • Pick Local Falcon if the grid is the product you want: many grid sizes, competitor and trend reports, Apple Maps as well as Google, AI visibility tracking, an API, and the freedom to spend credits however you like.
  • Pick Local Viking if you manage Google Business Profiles day to day: scheduled and recurring posts across locations, listing edits, photo uploads, white-label reports, with the GeoGrid as one part of that.
  • Pick neither if all you want is one keyword’s grid refreshed every week without counting credits. That is a smaller job, and it is covered at the end.

What Local Falcon is

Local Falcon describes its product as “the most cost effective and accurate way to track the rank and local AI visibility of any business listing”. The pricing page lists local keyword research, local rank tracking, AI visibility tracking, campaign, competitor, trend, keyword and location reports, scheduled scans, service area business scans, public report URLs, CSV and PDF exports, a Looker Studio connector, Zapier and n8n integrations, an API and white-label reports. It also sells AI analysis of a scan, which it calls Falcon AI, at 25 credits per report.

Its FAQ defines the unit plainly:

A credit in Local Falcon is defined as one data point, often referred to as a “map pin,” used on the geo-grid during a scan.

So a 5x5 scan costs 25 credits and a 9x9 costs 81. The grid is available in ten sizes, from 3x3 up to 21x21.

What Local Falcon costs, as of September 2026

PlanMonthly priceCredits a month
Starter$24.997,500
Basic$49.9915,150
Pro$99.9931,250
Premium$199.9963,150

Annual billing runs from $299.88 to $2,399.88 a year. Enterprise packages are listed from $499 to $4,999 a month. Credits bought as extras cost $0.05 each and never expire, while plan credits expire at the end of each billing cycle. The Looker Studio and Zapier integrations are free on any package larger than the monthly Starter.

What that means in practice: a weekly 7x7 scan of one keyword uses 49 credits a week, a little over 200 a month. The Starter allowance covers a few dozen of those. Scan competitors separately, use a bigger grid or add Falcon AI reports and the same allowance goes less far, which is the trade for the flexibility.

What Local Viking is

Local Viking’s home page leads with management, and only then with tracking:

Schedule GMB Posts, Track Snack Pack Rankings and Manage All Of Your Google My Business Properties From One Easy To Use Dashboard.

Its feature menu lists the GMB GeoGrid, post automation, review management, a rank tracker, listing management, scheduled photo uploads, scheduled white-label reporting and a content tool called GeoBooster. The tracking section promises “Maps and local rank tracking for Mobile and Desktop” and “Automatic Scheduling For Visibility Scans”. Posting is the headline: offer, standard and event posts, recurring posts, and posting to several locations at once.

PlanMonthly priceListingsKeyword creditsGeoGrid credits
Single$3911,6007,500
Starter$59103,2008,100
Pro$99205,60016,200
Agency$1494017,70024,300
Enterprise$2007026,60032,400

Every plan lists unlimited posts and unlimited accounts. White-label reporting and a GeoGrid widget start at Pro. Above 70 locations the page asks you to get in touch. Business owners with only a handful of locations are pointed to a demo call rather than a plan.

The price is set by listings, not by the grid. Ten listings on the $59 Starter plan cost less per listing than one on Single, which suits an agency and does little for a single shop.

Who should pick Local Falcon

  • You live in the grid. You want to compare 7x7 against 13x13, scan a service area rather than a pin, and pull trend and competitor reports from the same data.
  • You track more than Google. Apple Maps rank and AI visibility tracking are on the pricing page as part of the plans.
  • You feed other tools. Looker Studio, Zapier, n8n and an API are there when a client report has to land somewhere else.
  • Your usage is lumpy. Credits let one busy month and one quiet month cost the same plan, with extra credits bought outright when you run short.

Who should pick Local Viking

  • You post to Google Business Profiles on a schedule. Recurring posts across many locations is the job Local Viking was built around, and Local Falcon does not do it.
  • You edit listings and upload photos for clients. That work and the rank view sit in one dashboard.
  • You run many listings. At 20 or 40 listings the per-listing price drops sharply, and the GeoGrid comes with it.
  • You send clients branded reports. Scheduled white-label reporting is part of the Pro plan and up.

When neither is the right size

Both tools are built for people who spend their day in local SEO. If you are a business owner, or a freelancer with a handful of clients, and the only thing you want is the grid for a few searches, refreshed every week, you pay for flexibility or a posting calendar you will not use.

Local Rank Tracker does that one job. You pick your Google listing, type the search your customers use, and choose a 3x3, 5x5 or 7x7 grid with a radius from half a mile to ten miles. It scans every 7 days on its own and shows your rank at each point, colour-coded by map pack, top ten or further back, with the business ranking first at each point. If a weekly scan cannot measure enough of the grid, it says so and tries again within a day, and the last good grid stays on screen with its date.

Those figures are from our pricing page today. It will not replace Local Viking’s posting calendar or Local Falcon’s reports and integrations. It is for the person who would otherwise open one of them once a week to look at a map.

If you are comparing more widely, we have written up Local Falcon against BrightLocal, a Local Viking alternative and the best local rank tracker for each kind of job.

How to choose in ten minutes

  1. Write down what you open each week. If it is the posting calendar, Local Viking. If it is a scan report, Local Falcon.
  2. Count your listings and keywords. Many listings favour Local Viking’s plans. Many keywords on large grids favour a Local Falcon credit package sized to them.
  3. Work out one month of scans. Grid points times keywords times scans a month gives a Local Falcon credit figure you can hold against its plan table.
  4. Try before you pay. Local Falcon gives 100 credits on sign-up, and Local Rank Tracker gives 100 credits once. Run the same keyword in both and compare the grids.

The bottom line

Local Falcon is the deeper grid tool, and Local Viking is the wider profile manager. Choose by the job you do every week, not by the heat map, since both draw one. And if the heat map is the only job, track your first keyword and let it refresh itself.
